Use task-specific lighting instead of overhead lights
Instead of turning on the lights in a room or area, try turning on a nearby lamp, or a light that shines only on the area you need illuminated. Think of it as wasteful when you are lighting an area that you aren't using. For example, if you're simply reading, then opt for just your reading lamp and turn off the overhead light. Perhaps you're working on the computer in your cubicle, and if no one else is around, turn off the overhead lights, and turn on a desk lamp.

"I actually started skipping the drying all together. The only risk is that you meet someone you know leaving the bathroom within the first 30 seconds, before your hands dry. And I wouldn't normally shake someone's hands when leaving the restroom. Put your hands in your pockets, or shake them dry, or wait a minute. Wet paper towels in the bathroom seem to be the biggest waste I can think of..."
